This is a consumer product robotic welding machine. SMT designed and built this welding system, as well as integrated a turn table and weld fixtures with the Fanuc / Lincoln combination welding system. On another note, SMT also build the bending, flattening and trimming machine which fabricated the oval shaped handles. Interchangeable tooling allowed the customer to bend, flatten and trim a wide array of handle shapes.
Here is a manual welding fixture, which held some fuel rail components for a welder to tack the assembly together, pre-braze. SMT offers welding fixtures as well as fully automatic welding systems.
Here is a high frequency DC resistance welding machine, which welded stainless steel mounting brackets to a thin wall stainless steel fuel tube. We have built many of these systems for the automotive industry direct, as well as to first and second tier suppliers. Note the indicator gages mounted to the bracket nests. This was added for fine tuning the location of the bracket. The bracket to tube orientation moves during the welding process, due to the melting of the dimples on the brackets. All perishable tooling is designed for inexpensive spare part replacement.
Here is another high frequency DC resistance welding machine, which welded stainless steel locking ring to the one piece flange, as well as a couple of saddle brackets. All perishable tooling is designed for inexpensive spare part replacement. We included a recalculating water jacket to keep the tooling cool due to the quick part to part loading, cycle and unload. Here is another high frequency DC resistance welding machine, which welded stainless mounting brackets to thin wall stainless. This machine welded both the left and right hand fuel rail assemblies. SMT also designed and built the entire fabrication line for this fuel rail assembly, which included main rail bending and piercing, injector cup staking, all basket welding, inlet tube bending and assembly, sensor and inlet tube welding, crossover tube ferrule crimping and a verification station. This was the engineering team that visited SMT Industries for machine run-off and acceptance.
Here is another high frequency DC resistance welding machine, which welded stainless saddled tube to the fuel rail. All perishable tooling is designed for inexpensive spare part replacement. Machine provided with purchased materials list, complete operating procedures and all assembly and detail drawings.
